William Hung of American Idol shame may be famous now, but he's not the first person to get notoriety for his horrific voice and total shameless self-aggrandizement. Mrs. Miller did it first!

Mrs. Miller's Bio

She's perhaps most known for her rendition of "Downtown" on the Dr. Demento Show, but I recently heard a recording of her singing, "Hard Day's Night", originally of the Beatles.

Doesn't this look familiar...

The EFF is having a contest to select the Top (or bottom, depending on how you look at it) Ten Internet Patents deserving of utter destruction.

The Contest

Help rid the planet of obnoxious patents by submitting your most obstructive, irritating, violating patents you know of. I'd like to see the Amazon "One Click" purchase button patent go away, myself.

I've got gmail! One of my net.friends hooked me up. It totally rocks! It's free, they give a whole gig of storage, and I'm an advance user! Right now membership is by invitation only. I was lucky enough to get an invite (Thanks, Lane!) and it's rapidly changing the way I read and view email.

Believe it or not, people are actually selling their advance invites on ebay. Some of them are going for over $100 a pop - for something that will eventually be open and free for all! However, there's some address name squatting. I wonder how gmail will handle the trademark issues.

Rampage!!!

Never piss off people with tools. A welder in Granby, Colorado (I hope - the article never says what state it's in, but I think we can infer from the page that it's CO) modified a bulldozer with armor plating and used it to trash a bunch of buildings in town. He has a little something against the management, I suspect.

Rampage!

I know just how he feels, but I don't know how to weld.

Since when have I ever written Double Dactls?

Since Now!

Mystero Trystero
riddled my consciousness
damned double dactls re-
verb in my head;

Grant Chuck and Camilla
tintinnabulations
if Canterbury sez
OK to wed.

-Spastic Mutant

There. I wrote one. Anyone on "the list" will know what this means.

Now, if I could just get the damned rhythm pattern out of my head...

Apparently there's a shop in Japan called, "Cats Livin" that sells pet-related accessories. They also keep a room in the back where people can pay $10 to sit in a simulated living room environment with a bunch of cats.

Cats Livin'

Now that is a real Cat House.

I can see why this works; Tokyo is a crowded city, and not many people can live in a place reasonably large enough for a cat to be all day. I like the "rent-a-cat" or "visit-a-cat" concept.
