Why Cats Paint
http://www.monpa.com/wcp/index.html
You may as well ask Why Cats Spray. They Paint (and spray) because they CAN.
Spraying is merely painting with urine, instead of paint, and is an outlet for the same creative expression that these humans have exploited with a paint-tray. Sadly, the spray expressions are meant for other cats to appreciate, but using paint diminishes this; though it opens up a human-accessible window to the psyche of the feline it closes the door to the very feline population the cat was targeting with spray. If cats want to talk to Humans they'll meow and scratch furniture. If they want to talk to cats, they'll spray and dig.
This can only lead to greater frustration on the part of cat artists who are unable to reach their target audience, exploited as they are by this human interference. I anticipate a movement of feline artists taking back ownership of their creative expressive rights - at night, in the alleys and backstreets, they'll be out tagging corners with their own brand of messages. Basquiat was only a messenger.

Sun Eclipsed?
What's up with all the takeover rumors about Sun Microsystems? They've been dismissing as "rubbish" all the speculation about Sun getting bought by a private capital investment firm. Yet, there's been a significant little pop in the stock in the last week, and people have been talking about their former exec Zander working for a big investment firm and being in a great position to know all about what's useful and profitable at Sun and what's not worth the silicon it's fabbed on.

X-Men II Rocked!
As a mutant, I would know a good mutant movie when I saw one. Sadly, my mutation only allows me to manipulate/destroy/annoy computer system specific targets in a controlled lab environment, so I doubt I'm ranked well on (or even on) Professor Xavier's priority list to save. Female geek mutants are vaguely tolerated in today's society so I'm not feeling too bad about that. I'd love to have a cool mutant costume, but flood-victim fashion is de rigueur for the geek chic.
