Mmmmmm....

Double vanilla bean ice cream with a pint of pitted halved cherries mixed in. That's what I made last weekend in the ol' ice cream maker. Vanilla beans are surprisingly inexpensive if you're willing to fork out and buy them in bulk. Martha Stewart never made this.

I also made saffron tomato soup. Saffron is such a maligned spice! People think it's expensive, and by the gram it is, but it's like certain other "medicinal" herbs often sold by the gram - you only use a tiny little bit to get the desired effect. Buy it in bulk and a whole ounce will last years. A pound, which is what the pundits usually cite, is more than a lifetime supply of saffron.
